A Grant is a gift of financial assistance or gift of funds to a qualified recipient to be used for a specific purpose. A Grant is not a loan and does not have to be paid back. Governments, Foundations, Non-Profit Groups, individuals and Corporations have specific goals to accomplish and grants are awarded to individuals or companies who will use the funding to achieve the specific objective.

The Grantor generally has a specific purpose or goal to achieve when offering these funds. The Grantee must meet the criteria and use the funds only for the specified purpose. Grantor goals may include:

Afford higher education opportunity to individuals meeting an economic criteria, ethnic status, students of specific discipline or children of organizations or clubs members.
Ensure specific types of research projects are conducted.
Expand exposure of cultural arts to a larger group of people by providing funding to organizations who will bring children to cultural arts events.
Encourage new Artists to produce their Artistic Programming.
Local Government offer grants to enhance and beautify their City

Each of these grants are available to achieve the goal of the offering entity. The grantee seeks money to accomplish a specific purpose and applies for a grant to get funding to achieve their goals: to go to college, perform research projects, take a classroom of children to a play, funding for an art show, repair of housing in a Redevelopment Area, funding for non-profit organizations to achieve a specific goal and to start a small business or to get a down payment to purchase a home.

A grant is usually a gift of money to the individual or company to help them fulfill their goal. By granting the money the Grantor is also achieving their purpose or goal.
